If you were to ask either of my sons what they love most about Thanksgiving, their answer would be simple. The three F’s they’d say, Family, Food, and Football!
I agree with them wholeheartedly –It’s always been important to me, but I’ve found that the older I get, the more I’ve come to appreciate Family, Food, and of course, Football.
Family
I can’t think of any other Holiday where the main focus is spending time with family. For some, Thanksgiving may be the only time of the year that you’re able to get together. It was certainly that way for my family when I was growing up. I have a very large family and most often Thanksgiving was the one and only holiday that everyone managed to get together. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins (so many cousins) all under the same roof. What an amazing time!
Food
Everyone knows that liberating feeling of tossing the diet plans aside and eating more during appetizers than you usually do in a full day. But today is Thanksgiving, darn it, and unlimited food consumption is how we celebrate it. A wonderful thing about the food – You’re allowed to put bacon in every dish! Another wonderful thing about the food – On Thanksgiving, eating 4 pieces of pie is an acceptable thing to do!
Football
Growing up, we would watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 1st thing in the morning. As soon as the parade was over, I would watch the football games with my dad while my mother, grandmother, and aunts were putting the finishing touches on our feast. Now, it seems that football is on the entire day at our home. There are 5 games scheduled for this Thanksgiving! No matter where I’ll be in the house, the sounds will be the same – laughter, cheers, groans, ooh’s and ahh’s. The sounds of my family enjoying their time together.
